Botox and Dysport are highly purified proteins made much in the same way antibiotics are made. There is no numbness or permanent changes associated with its use. Uncommon side effects can include bruising, redness, slight swelling at injection site, and rarely, eyelid heaviness/droop.
Prior to treatment, it is recommended to avoid alcohol, high dose vitamin E, aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medications such as Ibuprofen or Naproxyn, and any other blood thinning medications (unless used for prescribed medical conditions) to decrease the incidence of bruising.
