The Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) was established by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through NP clinical practice, research, education or policy, and to provide a forum to extend and enhance such efforts. Priority initiatives of FAANP are the creation and development of leadership and mentorship programs to foster the advancement of nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students.
Dr. Beth Haney, DNP, FNP-C, FAANP, was inducted as a Fellow in 2016 for her work in education and policy. Dr. Haney has been recognized for her achievements in education by developing and teaching the first professional Aesthetic Dermatology courses through the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Distance Learning program to ensure comprehensive training of nurses, NPs, PAs, and physicians in aesthetics. In addition, she has contributed to the development of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at UCI, proposed to open for enrollment 2017. Examples of her work in policy include leadership in her state organization as president of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners (CANP) by authoring language for NP policy legislation, and by spearheading a program to ensure the organization functions as one cohesive, powerful entity. Through the development and implementation of this framework geared to align all state chapters with the organizational mission of ensuring increased access to care, she has provided a foundation for future leaders to continue the quest for patient, community, and population health care access through full practice authority. In addition, she currently holds positions on state and national task forces, committees, and advisory boards.
